Conclusions:
E-glass fibers, woven polyethylene braids, and polyaramid fibers withstood the fatigue regime and increased the flexural strength of the implant-supported overdenture model. The spaces available for reinforcement did not affect the dynamic strength or the static loading capacity of the implant-supported overdenture model. (Source: Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry)

The influence of auxiliary features on the resistance form of short molars prepared for complete cast crowns
Statement of problem:
Several factors exist which result in crown preparations that are less than ideal. In these situations, the clinician should find a practical way to overcome the lack of resistance of the compromised tooth preparation.
Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of different auxiliary features on the resistance form of crowns with reduced axial wall height and increased total occlusal convergence.
Material and methods:
An Ivorine tooth was prepared on a milling machine with 22 degrees of total occlusal convergence (TOC), 3.0 mm of occlusocervical height, and a chamfer finish line (Group Ctrl). The crown preparation was subsequently modified to include proximal grooves (Group Grv), and reduced TOC from 22 to 4 degrees in…

Long-term resin bonding to zirconia ceramic with a new universal primer
Statement of problem:
Different surface conditioning, cleaning methods, and ceramic primers are used to improve bonding to zirconia ceramic. However, maintaining a durable bond with zirconia ceramic under various clinical conditions remains a challenge.
Purpose:
This in vitro study investigated the durability of the bond strength of adhesive luting cement to zirconia ceramic after the application of a new universal primer.
Material and methods:
Ninety-six disks were fabricated from zirconia ceramic (e.max ZirCAD). Disks were conditioned either with airborne-particle abrasion with 110 μm Al2O3 (AB) or silica-coated (SC). Thereafter, disks were cleaned either with oil-free air (A) or by ultrasonic cleaning (U) in alcohol. A conventional silane (S) (EspeSil) or…

The effect of endodontic access preparation on the failure load of lithium disilicate glass-ceramic restorations
Statement of problem:
Endodontic access preparation through lithium disilicate ceramic restorations may damage the restoration and compromise its load-bearing capability.
Purpose:
The purpose of this in vitro research was to investigate the effect of simulated endodontic access preparation through lithium disilicate glass-ceramic restorations on their load to failure.
Material and methods:
Sixty lithium disilicate glass-ceramic (IPS e.max CAD) complete-coverage restorations were milled and crystallized. Five coats of die relief were applied internally in the crown to provide a cement space approximately 60 μm in thickness. Composite resin dies were fabricated by backfilling each crown. The specimens were then stored at 37°C and 100% humidity for 30 days. Th…
