Advances in the Chemopreventive Targeting of Oral Carcinogenesis

Abstract Control of oral cancer associated with the frequent exposure to traditional risk factors such as tobacco, betel quid, and alcohol, together with the recent rise in human papillomavirus-related oropharyngeal cancer is a major public health concern worldwide. Late diagnosis and “field cancerization,” where multifocal malignant lesions compromise standard surgical treatments and chemoradiotherapy are among the most critical challenges faced by clinical oncologists.
