Although admittedly I am not certain of the right solution to this problem, looking at it from the academic frontier, the issue of a \u201cmismatch\u201d between the training of the oral-maxillofacial surgeon (OMS) and actual clinical practice is very real, and the frustration of the receding scope of practice of our specialty outside the academic environment is palpable and constantly on my mind.
