Abstract: Objectives: This work aims to review the key factors affecting the polymerization efficiency of light-activated resin-based composites. In the last decade, dental curing light technology has moved from using a quartz–tungsten halogen light source to using powerful light emitting diode light sources. Some currently available curing lights are 20 times more powerful than curing lights on the market 15 years ago, prompting some manufacturers to promote curing times of less than 3s. In the USA alone, more than 130 million resin-based restorations are light cured each year . However, the longevity of many posterior resin-based restorations is often not as good as it could be.
