Conclusions The toughness of zirconia/veneer interface with no treatment is significantly higher than that of interfaces subjected to liner application and airborne-particle abrasion. Clinical relevance. Liner application and airborne-particle abrasion seem to reduce zirconia/veneer interfacial toughness. Therefore, the two surface treatment methods should be applied with caution. MDA alerts members to possible tax identity theft

Lansing, Mich.—The Michigan Dental Association told members in a special alert April 11 that “the MDA has received several calls from member dentists who say that when they submitted their federal taxes this year they learned that their taxes had already been filed, most likely by an identity thief.”

Americans with Disabilities Act

Washington—The Department of Justice issued a final rule increasing civil penalties for violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which covers “professional offices of health care providers” including dental offices. This rule is effective April 27, 2014, according to the March 28 Federal Register notice. However, the DoJ announcement said, “The new maximums apply only to violations occurring on or after April 28, 2014.”
