Mother’s Perception of General Family Functioning and Sugar Consumption of 3- and 4-Year-Old Children: The East London Family Study
This study analysed data from 3- and 4-year-old children (n = 698) and their mothers and included logistic regression, conceptual hierarchical modelling and mediation analysis. The results showed that 17% of the sample consumed sugary foods more than 4 times per day, and that effective general family functioning may help reducing frequent consumption of sugary foods. There was a 67% reduction in children’s frequent consumption of sugary foods with every unit increase in the general family functioning score. Mother’s higher education may also help reduce the frequent consumption of sugary foods by children. The negative impact of mother’s lower education was buffered by the effect of effective general family functioning. The study findings underscore the prospect of identifying factors that…

“Inadequate” dementia care home ordered to improve by CQC
A CARE home in Poole for dementia sufferers has been deemed “inadequate” after one nurse was left to look after 23 residents. Delph House, based on Upper Golf Links Road in Broadstone , has been told it is “not safe”, “not effective”, “not responsive” and “not well led” in a Care Quality Commission report published on July 29. Among the “serious shortfalls” identified by inspectors, who visited unannounced in May, were concerns over the staff’s “skills and ability to provide safe care”.

In Okey-Panky, Gina Williams tells the story of her teeth
There are, I must admit, a lot of resonances for me in Gina Williams’ essay “Tooth and Nail,” up at Okey-Panky this week. Not because Williams and I have so much in common – our experiences are very different – but because teeth have long been a particular obsession of mine.

Modern Dentistry of Shrewsbury provides a complete range of services
“My philosophy is to educate myself as thoroughly as possible so I know what can be done in terms of techniques and materials, and then give that information to my patients so we can discuss the options, and they can make the decision that is best for them. The patient is as much a part of the process as I am,” said Dr. Todd Pizzi, who started the practice in 2001.

Shear bond strength of different types of adhesive systems to dentin and enamel of deciduous teeth in vitro
Conclusions Adhesives requiring preliminary etching ensure optimal bond strength to primary enamel. If separate etching is to be avoided, selected self-etch adhesives obtain acceptable shear bond values on primary enamel and dentin. Clinical relevance The treatment of pediatric patients presents a great challenge in dental practice, and optimization of treatment processes is important. (Source: Clinical Oral Investigations)

Physiological correction of lingual dysfunction with the “Tongue Right Positioner”: Beneficial effects on the upper airways
Publication date: Available online 15 August 2015 Source:International Orthodontics Author(s): Claude Mauclaire, Frédéric Vanpoulle, Yann Saint-Georges-Chaumet Several studies have demonstrated the beneficial role of functional tongue therapy in stabilizing treatments for dental malocclusion and treating sleep-disordered breathing (SDB). The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the effect on the upper airways of the Tongue Right Positioner device (TRP) used for the correction of atypical swallowing. We analyzed lateral headfilms of 94 orthodontic patients aged between 11 and 17, before the start of treatment and after establishment of mature swallowing, treated with the TRP (TRP group) or by reeducation exercises (control group). In the TRP group, the establishment of mat…
