Come Thursday, the nearly 17,000-seat Sports Arena will once again be transformed into a massive medical, dental and vision clinic, where hundreds of dentists, optometrists, nurses and other volunteers will offer free care for three days to those in need. But the services offered will be different compared to six years ago, when a similar event was first held at the Los Angeles Forum.

The Detection of Simulated Periapical Lesions in Human Dry Mandibles with Cone Beam Computed Tomography ? A Dose Reduction Study
ConclusionsUsing dose reduction with 360° and 180° CBCT scans demonstrated good diagnostic accuracy in the detection of simulated periapical lesions while reducing the radiation dose by 54%, and 51% respectively compared to conventional settings. Clinical evaluation is now needed to determine whether this is applicable to patients. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved. (Source: International Endodontic Journal)

Pulpal Remineralisation of Artificial Residual Caries Lesions in vitro
We assessed pulpal remineralisation of caries lesions in vitro. On the coronal aspect of human dentin discs (n = 70), artificial lesions [mineral loss #x0394;Z (mean ± SD) = 3,060 ± 604 vol% × µm] were induced, covered and pulpal surfaces exposed to pulpal fluid, remineralisation medium or water at pressures of 0, 1.47 or 2.94 kPa for 3 months. Mineral loss differences were assessed using transversal microradiography. No significant mineral gain occurred at 0 kPa and in samples exposed to water. At 1.47 and 2.94 kPa, pulpal and remineralisation fluid induced significant mineral gain [#x0394;#x0394;Z = 1,317 (25th/75th percentiles: 735/1,541) vol% × µm; p < 0.001]. Pressure and fluid composition determined pulpal remineralisation in vitro.Caries Res 2015;49:591-594 (Source: Caries Res...

New York City Cosmetic Dentist Offers Innovative Alternative to Traditional Dentures
Missing teeth are a problem that dentists have been working to fix for generations. While dentures can improve the appearance and the function of a patient’s mouth, “traditional dentures often entail messy adhesives, can cause irritation along the gum line, and may cause a feeling of ‘slippage’ that impairs your ability to speak, eat, and drink with ease,” says Dr. Trichas.
