Conclusions In 2012, nonwhite children in the Washington Medicaid program were significantly more likely to use orthodontic care than were white children. The Washington Medicaid program demonstrates a potential model for addressing racial disparities in orthodontic service use. Future research should identify mechanisms underlying these findings and continue to monitor orthodontic service use for minority children in Medicaid. Conclusions An association exists between the dental mineralization stages and the periods of the PGS, especially for second molars. Panoramic radiographs can be used as the first diagnostic tool to estimate the pubertal growth period. (Source: American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics)

Conclusions Surface morphology is a reliable source of proxy data for the characterization of skeletal shape variation and thus is particularly valuable in research designs where reducing potential long-term risks associated with radiologic imaging methods is warranted. We propose that longitudinal surface morphology from early childhood through late adolescence can be a valuable source of data that will facilitate the development of personalized craniodental and treatment plans and reduce exposure levels to as low as reasonably achievable. Conclusions The 12- to 15-year-old boys reported the lowest mean average pain intensity and a minimum subjective variation in between-subject and within-subject variances. The 15- to 18-year-old girls experienced maximum mean pain intensity and the highest daily fluctuations in pain intensity. The 12- to 15-year-old girls were the most different from one another in their overall pain experience. (Source: American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics)

Conclusions The surgery-first approach is a new treatment paradigm for the management of dentomaxillofacial deformity. Studies have reported satisfactory outcomes and high acceptance. However, the results should be interpreted with caution because of the wide varieties of study designs and outcome variables, reporting biases, and lack of prospective long-term follow-ups.
