Plymouth researcher secures funding to further investigate treatment for neuro-tumors

(University of Plymouth) Dr Sylwia Ammoun from Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry has secured £ 112,071 from Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and Sparks, the medical research charity, to research further into hereditary condition Neurofibromatosis 2 (NF2). Her work could offer hope to the thousands of, mainly young, people affected by NF2 – characterised by the development of multiple tumors of the nervous system. New local dental lab looks to built relationships with dentists to benefit patients

Up until now, according to Noah Whiteford, local dentists, when working with a lab on crowns, implants and dentures, would have to call on a large firm from outside the area. Whiteford and his partner think they've solved that problem with their new business, Whiteford Dental Lab, which they just opened in the Harvester Center.

The Effect of Complete Denture Occlusion on Function and Patient Quality of Life: Systematic Review.

This article investigates the available literature assessing complete denture occlusion by means of clinical trials or reviews of evidence. We utilised PRISMA guidelines to investigate the effect of complete denture occlusal scheme (balance occlusion vs. canine guidance) on functional or quality of life. Seven studies were included for review. All studies were poor to moderate quality with the majority lacking randomisation, blinding and demographic data from the study sample. The available evidence suggests that the differences between occlusal schemes may be small, challenging the notion that BO may be the optimal occlusal scheme.
