Gc america supports initiative to improve oral health among children in chicago and beyond

(Charlotte, NC, May 8, 2018) In Chicago 63% of third graders have cavities and more than half go untreated. Thanks to a collaboration between GC America and America ’s ToothFairy: National Children’s Health Foundation (NCOHF), caregivers will be provided with the basic tools for home oral care and education. GC America’s $ 100,000 philanthropic investment as Title Sponsor for the 2018 Chicago Smiles Initiative will help support operational expenses an d efforts to overcome significant barriers faced by under-served families in Chicago and surrounding areas with an emphasis on the education of grandparents, parents and other adult caregivers. University of Alberta cyclotron could supply province’s demand for medical isotopes

(University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine& Dentistry) University of Alberta scientists have taken a critical step towards supplying Alberta’s demand for medical isotopes. Their newly published findings could have major implications for other health jurisdictions across North America as well.Researchers at the university’s Medical Isotope and Cyclotron Facility used a particle accelerator known as a cyclotron to produce enough isotopes for up to 1,000 diagnostic procedures in a day. Robert Jarvik: An Innovator with Heart

Robert Jarvik, MD, remembers Dec. 2, 1982, as vividly as if it were last week. He was 36 at the time and a device he designed, the Jarvik 7 artificial heart, was about to be implanted into a human patient for the first time. That patient, a retired dentist named Barney Clark, had been at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City for about a week, and his medical team, lead by William DeVries, MD, planned to put off the surgery just a little while longer in hopes of getting Clark as strong as possible for the operation.
