Physicians are fighting legislation to add dentists to a state-funded program designed to help train and place physicians in medically underserved areas. The Doctors Across New York (DANY) program, funded through the state Department of Health, was enacted in 2008 to help recruit and retain physicians in rural and inner-city communities. Grants are awarded for physician practice support, including reimbursement of loans to set up new practices and help pay residency loans; and ambulatory care training.
