Compromised Schneiderian membrane: Correct Treatment Protocol?

I was performing a lateral window approach for a sinus lift when I inadvertently created a large tear, greater than 1cm, in the Schneiderian membrane. Should I remove the remnants of the tear prior to doing a repair as described by Pikos or should I leave the torn membrane as is? (Source: Dental Implants Discussed by Experts)
